This song would probably appear in any Kishore Kumar playlist. A solid song with simple but powerful lyrics. One of the early songs in which R.D. Burman uses a guiro - the "comb" sound that became famous in Sach Mere Yaar Hai (Sagar).

The guitarist Bhanu Gupta made a mistake during the recording. While people at the studio laughed, R.D. Burman insisted on the guitarist playing the "wrong" chord for the final recording.
The flautist of the song is Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia.
This extremely well-picturized song depicting a boat ride on Hooghly was actually filmed in Natraj Studios, Mumbai. The stench of stagnant water made it very difficult to shoot this romantic scene. Sharmila Tagore recalled chewing gum to be able to tolerate the smell.
