Saawan Kumar Tak is a writer, director, producer and lyricist who was active in the Hindi film industry during the 1970s and 80s.
He came to Mumbai from Jaipur in 1965 in the hopes of becoming an actor. When that did not work out he borrowed money from his brother-in-law and produced a film “Naunihal” (1967). It was with “Hawas” in 1974 that he began writing his own songs. The song “Tere Galiyon Mein” from the film, composed by Usha Khanna, became quite a success.
It was also the beginning of a successful partnership between Usha Khanna and him. They went on to work together in movies like “Dil Pardesi Ho Gayaa” (2003), “Sanam Harjai” (1995), “Bewaffa Se Waffa” (1992), “Pyaar Ki Jeet” (1987), “Laila” (1984), “Souten” (1983), “Saajan Ki Saheli” (1981), “Saajan Bina Suhagan” (1978), “Ab Kya Hoga?” (1976) and “Hawas” (1974).
He has also written songs for Rakesh Roshan’s blockbuster “Kaho Naa Pyar Hai” (2000). They are “Chand Sitare”, “Pyar Ki Kashti Mein” and “Janeman Janeman”.
