Ramprasad Bismil was an Indian revolutionary and a freedom fighter who was sentenced to death on 19 December 1927 for the Kakori Train Robbery. He was a poet whose famous lines “Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna” continues to instil patriotism in the hearts of many. This poem has been used in movies like “23rd March 1931 Shaheed” (2002) and “Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh” (1954).
He was born on 11 June 1987 to Murlidhar and Moolmati in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Other poems by him which have appeared in Hindi films include “Dil Fida Karte Hain” (“Azadi Ki Raah Par”, 1948) and “Darro Deewar Par Hasrat” (“Aandolan”, 1975).
