Prasoon Joshi is an advertising copywriter, screenwriter, lyricist, columnist and also a Writer-Poet. He was born on September 16, 1971 in Almora, Uttarakhand. His father D.K. Joshi was a PCS officer, who later became the Additional Director – Education. His mother, a lecturer in Political Science, also performed for All India Radio. Both his parents were expert vocalists. He is married to Aparna and has a daughter, Aishaanya.
He published his first book “Main Aur Woh – A Conversation with Himself” when he was 17 years old, subsequently published two more books after that.
Prasoon holds a post graduate degree in Physics. He has also completed his MBA from the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad.
Prasoon Joshi decided to make a career in advertising while pursuing his MBA and joined Oligvy & Mather (O & M), Delhi in 1992 under Piyush Pandey. He quit O & M after 10 years and in 2002, joined McCann-Ericsson. He became the Regional Creative Director in 2006 and by December, the same year, he was promoted as Executive Chairman for McCann Worldgroup India and Regional Creative Director, Asia Pacific.
He debuted as a film lyricist in Rajkumar Santoshi’s film “Lajja” in 2001, which was soon followed by Yash Chopra’s film, “Hum Tum” in 2004. Some of his other films are “Black” (2005), “Fanaa” & “Rang De Basanti” (2006), “Taare Zameen Par” (2007) & “Delhi 6” (2009). He was also the dialogue writer for the film “Rang De Basanti”.
Prasoon also created a number of ad jingles like “Sach Dikhate Hai Hum” for NDTV India, “Abhi To Mein Jawaan Hoon” for Safola, “Thanda Matlab” for Coca Cola. LG, Marico and Happydent, among others.
Prasoon was chosen as the “Young Global Leader 2006” by the Forum of Young Global Leaders, which is an affiliate of the World Economic Forum. He was seen as a judge in the reality singing competition show “Dhoom Macha De” in 2007 on NDTV Imagine. He was the Cannes Jury Chairman in 2008 and in 2009, he was one of the 10 member Cannes Titanium and Integrated Jury 2009 at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, 2009.
